Investing in Danville, Not Expanding Government

The development of the casino represents one of the most significant financial opportunities the City of Danville has seen in many years, and with that opportunity comes an enduring responsibility to use those resources in a way that reflects both fiscal discipline and long-term purpose, in accordance with Danville’s priorities.

Revenue of this kind should be approached with a clear understanding of its potential role as leverage to create even more economic activity and benefits within the City’s overall financial structure. It is neither fiscally responsible, nor beneficial for the City Administration to use it as a replacement for the ongoing core revenues required to cover fixed costs and other financial obligations of an expanded City Government, that must be sustained year after year.

Instead, the “Winning Proceeds” of the Casino provides Danville with an opportunity to make targeted investments to support business growth and development while strengthening the community.  This approach provides additional benefits of increased tax revenues resulting from the additional business growth, without creating additional long-term financial burdens on the City’s future.

Danville has far too many areas that could/should benefit from this type of focused investment. Infrastructure improvements, neighborhood revitalization, and corridor development all contribute to the overall strength of the City. These are visible, measurable improvements that enhance quality of life for residents while also improving the City’s marketing position when competing with other communities for attracting business and economic activity.

A disciplined approach to these funds ensures that their impact extends beyond the immediate moment. When resources are allocated with a long-term perspective, they create value that supports future growth rather than limiting it. This requires careful planning, clear priorities, and a commitment to using funds in a way that aligns with the broader, planned direction of the City.

Transparency is also essential. Residents should have a clear understanding of how these funds are being used and how those decisions support the community as a whole. Public resources of this scale should be managed openly, with decisions that can be explained, understood, and evaluated.

Danville has been given a wonderful opportunity. Our collective responsibility as members of this community is to participate in this election to determine how you would like to see your “Casino Winnings” invested.  Your current Casino winnings are being used to cover employee costs that can be paid by other core City revenues after a reduction/reorganization of the City Administration takes place.  It is my pledge to you that I will use your Casino “winnings” more wisely.  They will be leveraged as community investments, and with your participation and input in determining what those priorities are.
